Themed Casino Games - the Weird and the Wonderful

The Hoff is coming to a slot near you

When it comes to grabbing your attention, the casinos really know how to do it. Back in the early days, they used loud music and bright lights to get the punters in through the doors. Then in later years, came the cabaret acts of Vegas that brought a whole new type of customer onto the casino floor. And then, there are the slot machines.

Now, we know what you're thinking - haven't they always been designed to attract people's attention? Well, not quite. Sure the symbols on the earliest slot machines were a great source of novelty but they did, in fact, serve a function. Fast forward more than a few decades and things have changed in a very big way.

These days, slot machines and online video slots are all about the themes. And that has led to some pretty wacky and sometimes wonderful combinations.

Here are a few of our favorites.

Elvis sings the slots

Viva Las Vegas

Elvis pretty much is Vegas and so it makes perfect sense that his image should be found on slot machines across the globe. But did you know that it wasn't until the late 90s and early 00s that Elvis' name finally made it onto a slot machine? Incredible to think that the man who is often the first name we think of when we say the word Vegas took so long to get his own themed slot.

Since then, there have a number of variations to grace the hallowed halls of Vegas casinos and more than a few to be found in online casinos.

Rock the slots

Heavy Metal and casinos are about as close as you can come to being poles apart. But interestingly, there's a huge number of rock-themed casino games out there. Motorhead, AC-DC, there's even a Guns 'n' Roses themed one on SkyVegas. And by all accounts, they're hugely popular.

In fact, there are more heavy metal themed slot machines than there are of Elvis. And he was the King of rock 'n' roll. Wonders will never cease.

Wizardly slots

Speaking of wonderful things, the Wizard of Oz slot machines are getting better and better by the year. Oh, didn't you know that these were a thing? Well, the latest one is called Munchkinland and it's a pretty incredible attempt. These live machines feature a chair with 3-D sound so you're totally immersed in the game.

It even has the munchkins singing, and tornados, and Dorothy, and the Wicked Witch. If you're a fan of the 1939 movie, then this is like slot heaven for you.

Flying shark slots

Sharks, tornados, slots, what can go wrong? Yes, as you may have guessed, this one can be filed in the weird section. The movie franchise Sharknado is weird enough as it is but to then make it into a slot machine? That's just plain bonkers.

Nevertheless, this did actually happen and strange as it may seem, the slot was and remains pretty popular. Perhaps it's the splashes of blood that herald a win that attracts players.

Exotic alien slots

Bet you never thought you'd read those words in the same sentence, right? Sneak a Peek Planet Exotica is as racy as it sounds. It's a slot machine based on an alien civilization with scantily clad female aliens that offer you a peek of what's under their clothing if you can match a number of symbols.

We would love to have been in the meeting room when this gem was pitched to the company board. We may joke, but it's a popular online slot that can be found in quite a few online casinos.

Hoff slots

Now that we're done with the weird, let's round off the list with a slot that we think is wonderful. It's the cheesiest of cheesy slots and it's dedicated to none other than The Hoff himself, David Hasselhoff. Hoffmania is a super simple online slot that pays homage to the most watched man on TV. Match up golden Hoffs to get free spins or autographs to win credits.

Like we said, it's really cheesy, but in a wonderful way.

So as you can see, slots have come a long way since the old liberty bell. Where once, all a casino had to do was pump up the volume and turn on the lights to bring in the customers, they're now using every trick in the book to grab our attention. And if we're completely honest, we love it. Sometimes, it's good to get away from the tables and enjoy yourself with some mindless spinning of the reels. And besides, who can say no to the Hoff?
